What a comprehensive eye screening is
A comprehensive eye screening is the fullest of our four packages: every test in the comparison below, from how clearly you see to a scan of the back of the eye. At our community clinics it is optometrist-led, takes about an hour and a half and costs $249 — at Bedok, Clementi and Toa Payoh — and every report is reviewed by an ophthalmologist.
What separates it from the general eye screening is visual field testing and posterior segment OCT — a check of your side vision, and a cross-section scan of the retina. Everything the general screening covers is in this one as well.

40
The age to start
How often should you have one?
A baseline comprehensive eye examination is recommended at the age of 40, even when nothing feels wrong — it is when the early signs of cataract, glaucoma and diabetic changes first become detectable.
| From age 40 | At least once |
|---|---|
| With diabetes | At least once a year |
Come sooner for anything new in between — blurring · glare · floaters · pain or redness.
Your interval may be shorter if you have a family history or an existing eye condition.
Common questions
What is a comprehensive eye screening?
It is the fullest of our four packages: 12 tests covering how well you see, the pressure inside the eye, the front structures, a photograph of the retina, your side vision and scans of both the front and the back of the eye. Your results are reviewed by an ophthalmologist, and our staff email you the report.
How much does a comprehensive eye screening cost in Singapore?
A comprehensive eye screening is $249 nett at our community clinics in Bedok, Clementi and Toa Payoh. That covers all 12 tests and the doctor-reviewed report.
How long does a comprehensive eye screening take?
Allow about an hour and a half. It is the longest of the four packages, because it has the most tests in it.
What does the comprehensive screening add over the general one?
Two tests: visual field testing and posterior segment OCT. At our community clinics in Bedok, Clementi and Toa Payoh the general screening is $99 and the comprehensive is $249. Everything the general screening includes is in the comprehensive one as well.
Does a comprehensive eye screening check for glaucoma?
It includes the checks used when looking at glaucoma — the pressure inside the eye, visual field testing and a scan of the retina. A screening is not a diagnosis: where something needs specialist care you are referred on to an eye specialist, who decides what it is and what to do about it.
Should I book a comprehensive eye screening if I have no symptoms?
Many eye conditions develop gradually and may not cause noticeable symptoms in their early stages, which is the reason to have any screening rather than this one in particular. If you are not sure which of the four suits you, message us and we will help you choose.
