About Dr Jayant
Senior Consultant and Medical Director at The Straits Eye Centre, based at Camden Medical Centre on Orchard Boulevard.
Dr Jayant V Iyer practises comprehensive ophthalmology — cataract, dry eyes, refractive errors and diabetic retinopathy — with a subspecialist interest in glaucoma. He is a bladeless cataract surgeon, performing femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery as well as standard surgery.
He completed a matched clinical glaucoma fellowship at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins, in the United States. In 2014 he received the Gold Medal in the Specialist Accreditation Examinations in ophthalmology. He was formerly Senior Consultant Glaucoma Surgeon at the Singapore National Eye Centre. There he headed the Clinical & Service Quality department and was Lead, Global Ophthalmology — now a WHO Collaborating Centre.
He is also Chief Executive Officer of The Straits Group, which runs The Straits Eye Centre alongside a heart centre and a geriatrics centre.
He and Dr Jason Lee co-founded The Vision Mission in 2014. It works to alleviate treatable blindness in Asia and beyond.
He is passionate about eye care in the community and believes in strong partnership with primary care providers, as early detection of disease is key in keeping patients healthy and preserving their right to good sight.
