Eye screening and check-ups
An eye screening — also called an eye check-up or an eye test — is a set of non-invasive checks on how well you see and how healthy your eyes are. The Straits Eye Community Clinic offers four optometrist-led packages, from $29 to $249, at Bedok, Clementi and Toa Payoh. Every package includes the same five core tests and a report reviewed by a Primary Eye Care Physician.

Common questions
Who carries out the eye screening?
The screening is carried out by one of our optometrists. Your results are then reviewed by a Primary Eye Care Physician, and our staff email you the report. Both are included in every package.
Do I need to book a consultation as well?
No. A doctor already reviews your results and our staff email you the report, at no extra cost. If you would like to follow up and go through it with the Primary Eye Care Physician, that is a separate consultation and it costs $76.30 nett.
Which eye screening should I book?
If you have cataract symptoms, the cataract screening. If you are living with diabetes, the diabetic retinal screening. For a routine check or a prescription review, the general screening. The comprehensive screening adds side vision testing and a scan of the retina. If you are not sure, message us and we will help you choose.
Will my eyes be dilated?
Only in the diabetic retinal screening, and only where it is necessary. Dilating drops blur near vision for several hours, so plan not to drive yourself afterwards. The other screenings photograph the retina without dilation.
How much does an eye check-up cost in Singapore?
At our community clinics an eye screening starts at $29 for the cataract screening, $99 for a general or diabetic retinal screening, and $249 for the comprehensive screening. Each price covers the whole package, including a report reviewed by a Primary Eye Care Physician.
What is the difference between an eye screening and an eye test?
In everyday use they mean the same thing, and an eye check-up is the same again. A sight test at an optical shop usually checks how well you see so that glasses can be made. Our screenings also check the health of the eye — the pressure inside it, the front structures and, in most packages, a photograph of the retina.
