A myopia screening is a set of non-invasive checks on how well a child sees and how their eyes are developing. At our community clinics it is optometrist-led and costs $95.92 — at Bedok, Clementi and Toa Payoh — and every report is reviewed by an ophthalmologist.
Our optometrists provide ongoing monitoring to assess visual development and support long-term eye health.
Short-sightedness usually begins in childhood and changes as a child grows, which is why the screening records a prescription and a measurement of the length of the eye at each visit rather than looking at one moment alone. If you are after a general check of eye health instead, the general eye screening covers that.

The general eye screening looks at overall eye health at a point in time. The myopia screening is built around how short-sightedness is changing, and adds three checks the other screenings do not include — a measurement of the length of the eye, an orthoptic assessment of how the two eyes work together, and a check of depth perception.
What is axial length measurement?
It is a measurement of the length of the eye, from front to back. Recording it at each visit gives an objective measure of how the eye is growing, alongside the spectacle prescription. It is one of the 9 tests in the screening.
Does the myopia screening include a glasses prescription?
Yes. Refraction — the measurement of the spectacle prescription — is one of the 9 tests, so the report covers it. It is not a spectacle fitting, and we do not dispense glasses.
What happens if the screening finds my child is short-sighted?
Your results are reviewed by an ophthalmologist and our staff email you the report.
